2009 MICHEL JUILLOT Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Barraults Rouge
$438.00
When you first smell this wine it seems quite quiet and restrained and then you take a sip and it just bursts onto the palate, showing an altogether flashier side. The fruit is positively robust and it marries nicely with the tannins and mineral notes. Very good indeed.

A quintessential pinot nose that is ripe yet elegant, pure and fresh and while the aromas are certainly ripe, they stop short of being too ripe. The refinement of the nose extends as well to the vibrant, rich, detailed and mineral-driven middle weight flavors that possess a really lovely inner mouth perfume as well as real drive and focus on the impressively persistent and palate staining finish. This is a wine of harmony and finesse and the mineral element adds lift.
