Merlot-dominated red with some truly delicious prune, fig and an almost Turkish Delight-like quality. Judiciously balanced with well-defined tannins and acidity, this is well-priced Bordeaux from a tip-top vintage.

26/05/2012 Aromas of raspberry, oak, cherry and Merlot. Has an appealing warmth with earthy textures. Fresh, well polished, concentrated palate which finishes long. Drink 2012 . Alc: 13%. (15.5 points)
Haut Barrail is produced at Vieux Château Landon. The property is in Bégadan, known for well-constituted fruity Claret (archives go back to 1607). The vineyard is planted 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Malbec, but Haut Barrail is produced chiefly from vats of the property's Merlot.
Good to see all these 2009 bargains. Very dark, lustrous crimson. Serious stuff in terms of build and with lovely ripe fruit. Jewelly and bright and energetic and no hurry to drink this well-structured wine. A little dry on the finish for the moment.

Solid, with a racy iron and violet frame to the core of sleek red currant, cherry and damson plum fruit. Not big, but with nice cut on the finish. Drink now through 2014. 1,665 cases made.
