2009 August Kesseler Cuvée Max, Spätburgunder Trocken

75 year old vines in the Hollenberg Vineyard are the source of the grapes for this full-bodied Pinot Noir. There's lovely clarity to the fruit and there's no missing the fresh red berry fruits, damson plum and spice fruits that sit brightly on the palate. The finish has a delicious mineral edge. An excellent food wine.

Lots of ripe fruit and concentration on the nose here. Very sweet palate entry and yet freshness on the finish. Great care has obviously been taken to keep fruit dominating (rather spicy) wood – just. Nothing like burgundy but an attractive drink that’s easy to like.
