Wine Spectator review from April 30th 2009: Score 93: Light as a feather and intensely flavored, showing grapefruit, honey, quince and spice notes. Bracing and taut, finishing on the austere side now. Needs time. Best from 2012 through 2035. 132 cases made.–BS

Lovely aromas of lychee, flowers, ripe apples, peaches..almost the same on the palate. Sufficient acidity. Long finish with a touch of minerals

No botrytis. Picked on 28 Oct, very late. Grapes dried on the vine. Dense and citrus – lime peel. Much less complex and more astringent than the J J Prüm Auslese Goldkapsel. Very solid.

A 2007 Lorcher Schlossberg Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule offers further proof of August Kesseler’s wisdom in championing the sheer, relatively cool, and long-neglected vineyards of Lorch. This mingles faded lilies, musk, peach preserves, pear nectar, cantaloupe, honey, and fresh lemon in an at once ultra-rich and almost electrically-charged expression of Riesling-on-slate. The decadent, musky, animal notes here persist into the long, lush yet bright finish, along with marzipan and the aforementioned cast of fruits. This should be worth following for a quarter century, and will also be an excellent wine with which to stump Riesling geeks, who will probably guess “Mosel.”
