2006 Aurelien Verdet Morey St. Denis

2006 was a great Burgundy vintage, producing lots of fruit-forward wines. This Morey-Saint-Denis (in the Cote de Nuits) is a cheerful mouthful of black cherry fruits. Has a fresh, lively finish.

Verdet's 2006 Morey-St.-Denis offers a silken texture; attractive brightness of fresh plum and cherry tinged by the bitterness of their pits; subtle meatiness; and an invigorating salinity that carries into a lovely if not especially emphatic finish. This displays the lift and refinement of so many outstanding 2006s, and should remain a delight over the next several years.
Aurelien Verdet – who works with and was mentored by better known vigneron David Durban – owns a hodge-podge of parcels both in his neighborhood of the Hautes-Cotes and in the Cote d'Or (including a share in Vosne's Les Barreaux, from which however no sample reached me).
