The aroma really displays the best characteristics of this ripe vintage. It’s full of intense red berry fruit, chocolate, earth and leather.
The palate is voluptuous and seductive, initially appearing generous and inviting before revealing the serious structure beneath.
Extended maturation both in barrel and bottle before release has allowed the wine to gain some sophistication and grace from what was a very rich and robust vintage.

A clean, elegant, medium-bodied wine; supple red and black fruits with a touch of regional chocolate, and fine tannins; 23 months in French and American oak, which still intrudes a little. Winner Jimmy Watson '06. Special. Closure: Cork. 15% alcohol. AUD$45

Jimmy Watson winner. Sweet and spicy on the nose, but slightly superficial – the fruit isn’t backed up with enough complexity, and the acid is unhinged. Perhaps this hasn't aged too well. (RH)
