Many would say that Ch. Rieussec is second only to Yquem in terms of quality and on tasting the wines, it would be hard to argue otherwise. As you would expect from great Sauternes, this wine offers a dazzling mouthful of fruit - candied oranges, honey, praline, lemon curd, apricot... all perfectly balanced by a fine backbone of acidity. It's a tremendous glass of wine that should be served nicely chilled. This wine may be available in an Original Wooden Case if 12 bottles purchased.

The bronze and amber hue shows a surprising evolution in this wine. Mature nose with wax, caramel, dried fruit and roasted notes. The palate is sweet but lacks the succulence and power it showed in youth. Drink now as beginning to fade. Drink up to 2012. (15.5 points)

Exotic aromas of truffle, game, dried fruits and tobacco; strong impression of botrytis. Powerful on entry, then very sweet (74 grams/liter r.s.) and very concentrated, with an amazingly glyceral texture. Powerful and very deep. Still some sulfur to be absorbed. One of the richest wines of this group, really thick with extract. Finishes firm, youthful and very, very long. This vintage was picked in a single trie extending from late October into November.

The 1990 was more precocious and flattering than the more highly rated 1988 and 1989, with its tropical fruit-scented nose, big, spicy, rich, high alcohol flavors, and a fine underpinning of acidity giving everything clarity and crispness. It will be drinkable at an earlier age than the 1989, but it will last just as long.

Blockbuster. Wow. Wonderful. Dark yellow with a gold hue. Full-bodied and very sweet, with thick and powerful fruit. The spice, orange peel, honey and dried apricot character goes on and on. Long, long finish.--1990 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2005. 6,250 cases made.
