Perrier-Jouët is always a popular wine. It is lively and fruity with lovely fine bubbles. The floral scents on the nose are given prominence by the floral design on the label. On the palate it is rich and velvety with a long finish. Delicious.

(40% pinot meunier, 35% pinot noir and 25% chardonnay; L1581302156): Light yellow, with a faint reflection of green. Lemon, lime and fresh pear on the spice-tinged nose. Dry and nervy, offering tangy citrus fruit flavors and a touch of white pepper. Shows good clarity and bite on the finish, which leaves a bitter quinine note behind. On the tight side for this bottling and well-suited to simply adorned or even raw fish and shellfish.

Probably base 2015, ‘Our brand ambassador has mastered the art of deciphering lot numbers’. Very fine mousse. Straightforward, rather sweet and chewy blend. Punchy but not refined.

Perrier-Jouet’s NV Grand Brut is a very pleasant, mid-weight Champagne that shows lovely complexity. Suggestions of smoke, roasted nuts and light honey add character to a generous core of ripe yellow fruit. The wine offers excellent overall balance and a poised finish. This is Lot L2070809871, disgorged November 17, 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012.

Elegant and finely balanced, with a subtle vein of smoky minerality underscoring juicy poached apple, candied lemon zest, gingersnap and honey notes. A fine aperitif. Drink now through 2016. –AN
