Rioja - one of the most readily recognised and loved of all the world's wines. The indigenous Spanish variety, Tempranillo, lies at the heart of Rioja's success. It is a grape that can be both light-hearted and easy-going or more serious, with greater depth and complexity. When it is the latter it works a treat with oak ageing, soaking up the extra character that this gives. The final wines are an exiting blend of red hedgerow fruit, light spice and cigar box all of which unite into something rather magical in the fullness of time.
