Wine Regions in South Africa
Olifants River Valley is in the northern in South Africa’s Western Cape, including the areas of Cederberg, Bamboes Bay, Koekenaap and Vredendal. We carry the first wine from Cederberg.
Vineyards in Cederberg are more often seen on sandstone and shale. The cool-temperature areas near the coast are good to the production of Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc, while the areas further and higher in the mountains are better to a variety of red-wine grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz.
E.g., 2012 Cederberg Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, the high altitude brings with it high diurnal temperature differences (i.e. it is significantly cooler at night compared to the day), adding complexity to the wine.
