For the fifth year running, Abbelio Wines again sponsored the HKU German Society’s Wine Tasting. The tasting event was held on the evening of Friday 4th March.

We sponsored three German wines – two white wines and one red wine.

Among all of the white wines around the world, German white wine has long been acknowledged as the most elegant. Indeed, Riesling (a variety of white wine grapes) originated along the Rhine region of Germany.

Already interested in Portugal's wines such as Vintage Port, made from only a single vintage, whereas the most famous wine from Portugal is typically made by blending several vintages of wine together, Abbelio is always looking to try new wines. That’s why we met Team Tejo, a winemaking community based around the great Portuguese river, the Tejo, inland from Lisbon. 

Taking place in the beautiful Portugal's consul residence overhanging Macau, we had the chance to met eight winemakers who are masters of blending the several indigenous and international varietals they have at their disposal, to create distinctive wines that are always enjoyable. 

The chance we already had to taste all these delightful creations was enhanced by our meeting with Casa Cadaval, especially by the white Vinha Padre Pedro reserva from 2013, and the Red  Marquesa de cadaval - both were really exciting and interesting.

Abbelio Wines is always interested in tasting new wines, from new regions, new countries to finding the perfect treasure combining the know how with novelty, and the harmony between new flavours to discover the next hot wines. 

HOFEX 2015 is the largest show ever in its history with 65,000 m2 exhibiting space taking place in the Convention and Exhibition Center of Hong Kong, providing  a platform for 2,400 international exhibitors. In its 16th edition, HOFEX 2015 continues to blend the best of wines from all over the world.

So, our participation was required to this essential event in this special and amazing place, overlooking the Kowloon Bay and one part of the beautiful Victoria Harbour. 

Looking and tasting different wines from different regions we were struck by the Austrian wines, and in particular the Blaufrankisch wine the "Hofstadter". Indeed the typical bouquet of this late ripening variety is characterized by deep forest berry fruit and delicate spiciness. On the palate this wine is vibrant and let feel a distinct acidity. We also notice a firm structure and distinctive tannins that develop velvety and supple facets with increasing ripeness.
